Golf and CBD: A “Magic” Pair? Maybe.

Whether you golf, lift weights or just have trouble sleeping, you may have been recommended CBD recently.

Last summer, Golf Digest asked, “is this golf’s magic potion?” The same article suggested CBD could be the “hottest product in golf this year.”  Some may have considered that a bit of hyperbole. But— let’s think about it.

Calling CBD a “product” may further muddy the waters. The so-called “CBD market” is saturated with tons of different brands and products. Some people rely on tinctures, or drops, taken orally. Others enjoy chewable gummies. Then there’s the popular rubs or balms that are taken topically and applied to achy parts of the body.

On and off the golf course you have likely heard a lot about CBD.

What is the connection between CBD & Golf?

So, is CBD good for golfers? Perhaps, there seems to be quite a bit of buzz around a connection between CBD and golfing.

This summer, one writer from ESPN had an interesting guess as to why CBD was popular during the Champions Tour.

He suggested that because players were “older, with rapidly changing bodies” that they were looking for “ways to continue competing at a high level with their grueling schedules.”

That holds true for the general population. Many older Americans are turning to CBD. According to a recent Gallop Poll, about one in five Americans over 50 uses some kind of CBD product.

What about the stress associated with the open course? Well, CBD might help with that.

After the World Anti-Doping Agency removed CBD from its banned substance list in late 2017, there has been a rise in CBD use among athletes.  According to an insider at ESPN, “players have noted that they have seen improvements in sleep, recovery, anxiety, and focus.”

Want to try CBD?

According to a recent Harris Poll, a majority of Americans know of CBD. Of the 2,000 people surveyed, 86% of them had heard of the cannabis-derived compound. Yet, less than 1 in 5 had tried it. Only 7% say they use it on a regular basis.

Not all CBD products are created equal. Testing performed by a team under the direction of Dr. Oz found that many CBD  products are misleading consumers.

Any CBD product that you purchase should:
